My First BC
I’ve played bass clarinet since 10th grade, but until this weekend I never had one of my own. Every semester was bass clarinet roulette; sometimes I lucked out and got a nice one, but sometimes (as was the case this semester) I was doomed to constant battle with the poor forsaken basses that the department doesn’t have the money to fix up properly. However, thanks to my very generous parents, I’m now the proud owner of a brand new Yamaha YCL-221. They had proposed it as an early graduation gift, and my acceptance no doubt carries with it an implied good-faith effort on my part to get finished up this year; I took the bait willingly. After completing an amount of internet-based research that even Steve could have been proud of, I settled on the Yamaha as the best clarinet one could buy for less than the price of a new car. I haven’t settled on a name yet, but I’m thinking of resurrecting the name of my old bc from the ahs days. Brent might be the only one at this point who would remember Martha =)
