dinner club
Approximately once a week, Sam, Sara, Brian and myself will get together to try a new restaurant in Mpls. Sometimes we’ll also hit up an old favorite if the craving is strong or go to someone’s house and cook, but the endeavor is always known as Dinner Club (or DC, BC, or CC depending on whether it’s dinner, breakfast, or cooking.) I’m putting this up more for my own benefit so I can remember where we’ve been (and whose turn it is to pay … we’re all poor and/or unemployed, after all), but at some point it might become a nice reference. The list for 2009 is a bit short since one of us got fired last month and decided to drop off the face of the earth and hide from all of his friends, but here it is:
- Marla’s Carribean (Jan) — I had some doubles and brown down, quite tasty (ben)
- HKN (Jan) — We celebrated the Chinese New Year by going to our old standby for greasy noodleshop goodness; we went family-style with the sole, singapore rice noodles, and chow fun (I think). Tasty as always (sara)
- Key’s (Feb) — A rare breakfast club occurrence from a few weekends ago. Again, hitting up an old favorite for a massive, nap-inducing noontime meal (sam)
- Ghandi Mahal (Feb) — a highly-acclaimed Indian place on Lake Street. I’m no expert on Indian food, but this was about the best I’ve had (goa jalfrezi), and the naan was superb. We used Dan as a sub for Brian, and Sam, despite being unemployed, was the last to show up by about 15 minutes.
- The Blue Door (Feb) — I can see this place from my bedroom window and yet had failed to make the trek before last week. The beer selection is excellent (had a prima pils and a dirty farm girl, sadly they were out of hopslam), as were the stuffed burgers. Even the tots were tasty, and I don’t even like tots. Again, had to use Dan as a sub.
- Origami (Mar) — A rare mid-week lunch club, facilitated by front-door Taxi-of-Sam service. Was a bit cold for sushi but the craving was strong enough to overcome the unseasonably cold weather. Tasty as usual; I think I had the most marbled piece of salmon I’ve ever seen.
