This past weekend I ventured to Lutsen with 14 of my comrades to do some skiing/snowboarding, enjoy some North Shore cabin goodness, and engage in the types of shenanigans appropriate for such a trip (including but not limited to: dancing to terrible old-school rap in long underwear, bare-footed relay races in the snow, and building gigantic bonfires.) The trip also marked a number of personal milestones, including the furthest I’d ever traveled up the North Shore, and the first time I’d been cross-country skiing since middle school probably. Snowboarding was fun even though the snow was a bit old, but I couldn’t really justify dropping $100 on a second day of it so I went cross-country skiing the next day instead. This ended up being an excellent choice. I managed to see a bit more of the countryside and got a good workout, too.
The mastermind of this plan was Dan, who managed to find a 7-bed cabin located approximately in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by lots of trees and little else. It ended up being just about perfect; a big enough kitchen that we could all fit, heated floors, a pretty spectacular view, and a firepit with a healthy stock of dry firewood. The area must have had a few feet of snow on the ground and it covered everything, it was gorgeous. I definitely fell in love with the place and would enjoy going back again next winter.
I took a few pictures (see themĀ here), and although once upon a time they had some coherent order, after uploading and formatting it got all messed up. Oh well.
