Woke up this morning in Ames to find a nice, wet blanket of snow on everything, which was beautiful (and perhaps the only snow I’ll see before next March), but it certainly made our trip home a bit of an ordeal. After engaging in the time-honored family tradition of the post-Sunday brunch nap, Brian and I set out for Mpls a bit later than we would have liked. The first mile seemed an indicator of things to come, as traffic crawled to a stop and we quit counting cars in the ditch because it was just depressing. However, I knew that all we needed to do was make it to Minnesota, since it apparently never snows there anymore. Sure enough, after reaching Clear Lake in just under 3 hours (ugh) of white-knuckle driving, things cleared up shortly after Albert Lea and we managed to attain the speed limit for the first time about 4 hours (or 120 miles) into the trip. Incidentally, this was also about the time my iPod ran out of juice and we had to rock itunes on the mbp for the rest of the trip. Probably would have been better to stay in Ames and come back tomorrow but I guess I’m back now. Whew.
