Last night I had the chance to see the Bergen Woodwind Quintet play at the recital hall on campus. I think they are considered ‘visiting artists in residence’ or something, which means they are here for a couple weeks a semester to put on clinics and work with students and professors in the music department, sometimes even showing up at our lowly u-band rehearsals to play for us, which is a lot of fun. They also usually put on a free performance at some point while they are here, such as last night. As they are extraordinarily talented musicians, it’s always a treat to hear them play, and last night was no exception. I think the music selection was even more diverse than usual, and of course it always boggles my mind how incredible their musicianship is. Really puts you in your place. And, as is normally the case, I leave the hall wishing I’d picked up the bassoon at some point, hehe.
