the lake
it had been probably a good three or four years since the old group had made the trip up to the lake, but a couple weekends ago the stars finally aligned and four of us (myself, brent, jafar, and brian) were able to get in a long weekend of fishing up at my grandparents’ place. the weather didn’t quite cooperate; it was a bit cooler and windier than we would have liked, and the fish were anything but aggressive, but we managed to catch enough crappies for a fish fry on the final evening. however, i’m pretty sure we would have gone hungry if not for a mysterious buoy on the far end of the lake marking a weedy drop-off that ended up being a productive spot, even in the middle of the afternoon. whoever put it there knew what he or she was doing. also of note: brent managed a smallmouth on the first day, and jafar (our champion fisherman for the weekend) also caught a smallie, as well as a pike. brent likely would have given him a run for his money had he brought along some heavier line, i’m not sure i’ve ever seen someone lose as many fish as he did on a snapped line in three days’ fishing. the only thing i can take credit for is finding the fish, i didn’t have the best luck fishing.
brent took a bunch of pictures, which he put up on flickr. there’s some good ones in there =)
